Arequipa is the city of sillar (white stone), with destinations such as snowy, volcanoes like El Misti, deep canyons such as Cotahuasi and Colca, a renowned gastronomy, coves and beaches. Expand ▼Cathedral of the city of Arequipa and Museum
Location: Located on one side of the Plaza de Armas.
One of the first religious monuments of the seventeenth century in the city. It was built in sillar (stone of volcanic origin), of neoclassic style. It preserves invaluable objects like a pulpit brought from Lille – France; And a monumental Belgian organ, 15 meters high.
Church and Complex of the Company
Location: Intersection of General Morán and Álvarez Thomas streets, Plaza de Armas of the city of Arequipa.
Set of buildings erected by the Jesuits for religious purposes and housing. The buildings form a representative monument, to say of many, the most beautiful religious architecture of the seventeenth century (1660). In the middle of the ensemble stands the temple. In its interior it houses more than 60 canvases of the Cusqueña School, of artists like Bernardo Bitti and Diego of the Bridge.
Monastery of Santa Catalina
Location: Calle Santa Catalina 301.
Small walled citadel with cloisters, squares, streets, tile roofs and paved floors, construction of 1580, raised as absolute closure center for religious women, daughters of the most distinguished families of the city. In its interior it receives valuable colonial paintings of the School Cusqueña, carved and images, objects of cult and well conserved environments typical of the daily life of more than four centuries.
Santo Domingo Church and Convent
Location: Intersection of Santo Domingo and Rivero streets.
Built with a tower for the belfry, it consists of an atrium with a corner pedestal and impeccable arch under the choir. In the interior you can see pieces of imagery and canvases with sacred motifs. In the same way, it is known its lateral cover for being the oldest one of Arequipa. The largest cloister of the convent was built around 1734. Considered as the oldest temple in Arequipa, The Crucified Christ of the Great Altar, is one of the most beautiful images of the temple, it is related to an old legend, known as the Quasimodo.
Convent of La Recoleta
Location: Jr. Recoleta 117.
Franciscan convent of century XVII whose structure presents / displays diverse styles that go from the Romanesque until the neogótico by consecutive reconstructions. It is characterized by its magnificent library of more than twenty thousand books, some of an antiquity of four centuries.

Location: 8 km south of the city of Arequipa (20 minutes by car). P>
Traditional village with a special landscape, surrounded by extensive andenerías and three volcanoes, El Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu. Some of their houses still retain characteristics of the viceroyal or republican patron of the nineteenth century. A recreation complex has been built with two swimming pools that take advantage of the cold waters of the springs that surround the area.
Lookout of Yanahuara (Arequipa)
Location: 2 Km from the city center of Arequipa (6 minutes by car). P>
Built in the 19th century, it is made up of a series of sillar arches in which the words of illustrious Arequipeños have been engraved. From this place the visitor has a privileged view of the city and the Misti volcano. On Easter Sunday, the square sets the mood for the traditional burning of Judas, which consists of the burning of a doll that is represented by a current personage of the society, whose work is disapproved by the population.
Founder Mansion, Jacobo Hunter (Arequipa)
Location: 9 Km. From the city of Arequipa (15 minutes by car). P>
One of the most important and traditional mansions or mansions of the region, it was built on sillar at the edge of a cliff. According to the account, Garcí Manuel de Carbajal, founder of Arequipa, had her built for her son. Later, in 1785, Don Juan Crisóstomo de Goyeneche y Aguerreverre, its new owner, remodeled it with the stately characteristics that it maintains today.
Caves of Sumbay – Rock art (Arequipa)
Location: 85 Km north of the city of Arequipa by the road to Caylloma (1 hour 45 minutes by bus). P>
Located within the limits of the Salinas National Reserve and Aguada Blanca, they house more than 500 figures of rock art. These representations, made possibly by the first settlers of the zone, have an antiquity of 6,000 to 8,000 years approximately.
Volcano Misti (Arequipa)
Location: 20 km northeast of the city of Arequipa, you can reach the volcano’s skirts (1 hour by 4×4). P>

El Misti with its 5,825 masl. Is the image of the city. From the top of its summit it is possible to see the city of Arequipa, the valley of the river Chili and the volcanoes Chachani and Pichu Pichu.

Virgin of Chapi

The pilgrims carry stones of different sizes with those that form the so-called apachetas, which symbolize the sins of devotees. In the evenings, the image of the miraculous Virgin that will be in procession is watched with countless candles. There are also fireworks shows and typical viandas are offered. Location: Chapi (2,420 meters above sea level). Arequipa.Accesos Terrestrial road: Chapi, 87 km southeast of Arequipa. It can be reached by bus but some pilgrims prefer to arrive on foot (3 hours of walking approximately from the zone of 7 Toldos).
